What is discussed during my pathology consultation?

Patients will have the opportunity to meet via teleconferencing with a board-certified pathologist who will explain the pathology report. The consultation will be personalized and will explain the diagnosis and terminology within the report.

How long will my session last?

Sessions will typically last approximately 30 minutes.

Are family members allowed to be included in my consultation?

Family members are permitted to be present during the consultation, however, it must be included in the signed consent.

Will I receive information on treatment?

The goal of patient-centered pathology is to educate patients about their diagnosis and explain medical jargon detailed within the pathology report. The pathologist will not provide patients with opinionated information on specific course of treatment as every patient has a unique situation and approach by their treating physician. It is not in the scope of practice for the pathologist to discuss their opinion on the treatment process.

What technology do I need to access a Personal Pathology Consulting session?

All consulting sessions happen through either cellular connection (mobile calls) or WiFi (face to face virtual calls). At this time, we use Cisco's Webex (instructions will be emailed once consulation is confirmed), FaceTime (for Apple users), and traditional voice calls through mobile devices. We are constantly evaluating the best platform and will adjust based on performance and newer technology. Please be sure to indicate your preference in your New Consultation forms.

What happens after I fill out the new consultation and consent forms?

After you complete and successfully submit all necessary forms, we will review all information provided.  We will then contact you to schedule your consultation. Upon your scheduled appointment, you should email or text your pathology and/or cytology reports BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT. Failure to do so will result in a cancellation/rescheduling of your appointment.
